Xie Dong was born in Beijing on September 6th 1967. In 1988 she gratuated from Beijing Art and Design Institute and started to try various kinds of ceramic materials and techniques to express her art. In 1999 she took part to the porcelain art exhibition “Sao Erdong” and in 2000 to the exhibitions “Beyond the site” and “Fellowship”. In 2003, thanks to her works in bone china she was received well and became an important ceramic artist in China. With the on-going cooperation with Zhizhaoshe she ventured in other form of art creation with different material such as cloth, paper and leather. She works essentially on phenomena, such as heaviness and lightness, on the dynamics of shapes, on elusive elements and throught a particular and complex technical process, she can bend and rippel the ceramic. Her approach to design is that of an artist able to translate into poetry great artisanal skills linked to ancient Chinese handcraftsmanship.
