William Chambers is a Scottish milliner based in Glasgow, who creates bespoke hand-made hats, headpieces, bridal millinery and flowers. Since showing his debut collection at Glasgow Fashion Week in March 2007, William has quickly become a sought after milliner within Scotland and further a field. He has been nominated in the Scottish Fashion Awards 2008 (Accessory Designer of the Year) and recently featured in The List magazine’s Style Issue as one of ‘the hottest young designers in the country’, alongside Christopher Kane and Deryck Walker. In late 2007 he designed a hat for Moloko singer and fashion icon Roisin Murphy (who recently performed at Swarovski Fashion Rocks), which she wore on her recent European tour. In September 2007 William was commissioned to design a headpiece for a campaign for Scotland’s largest club night, Death Disco. He made them two options and they liked them so much they used both. He has also completed several commissions for national and international customers for events such as weddings, parties and film festivals.Birds and architecture are two subjects that William cites as his inspiration, and this is evident in the shape, texture and detailing in his work. He mixes traditional materials such as felt and synamay with contemporary materials like latex, plastic and metallic leather. William gained a first-class honours degree in textile design at the Scottish College of Textiles in 2002 and set up William Chambers Millinery in 2007 after attending a hat-making course in Glasgow.
