Emi Ozawa

Wooden "Bird Tables"

"Through forms and colors, I like to make objects and furniture that suggest playfulness and evoke curiosity." (Emi Ozawa)

By combining animal shapes with the formal elements of furniture, Emi Ozawa invites viewers to enjoy her work though hands-on participation-opening doors or drawers, turning latches, folding panels. As with children playing with their toys, simple, interactive pleasure is the key.
Valuing a piece on its ability to bewilder rather than function, Ozawa crafts each object as a toyful puzzle that has the power to please by revealing a simple mystery.
